Welcome at T.S.V. 'Jan Pieter Minckelers'

The book sale has started at Japie! Do you still need to collect your study books after you placed an order at Japie, or do you want to buy books because you start your study at the TU/e this year? You can do so now! Drop by at the Japie Room (STW 0.25) to purchase your books.

Membership subscription for the academical year 2010/2011 has been opened. You can register as a Japie-member at the Large Japie Room (STW 0.25). As always, the membership fee will amount to €2,50. In exchange for this money, you get the right to purchase books at discount rates, you will receive the association magazine T-Licht in your mailbox four times a year, you can subscribe for the wonderful Japie activities and much more. Hopefully we can all welcome you as a new or renewed Japie member this year!

Everybody still knows it from secondary school. Dodgeball. That sport in which you would try to hit the most annoying boy of the class on his head with the ball, but your teacher would never allow it. That's the sport which the Japie Foreign Master Committee (BuMaCie) brings back to the university for one more time. So do you fancy playing dodgeball with both your foreign master colleagues, but also the Dutch students? Subscribe then at the Japie Room for this activity, which will be held on the 7th of September. Costs are 5 euros, and the activity will last from 6 pm to roughly 9 pm. There's no need to bring your own food, a buffet will be arranged and the F.O.R.T. will be opened for your drinks.

Are you also sad the holiday has ended? Don't fancy those long hours in the lecture halls either? Well...all part of the deal if you're studying here. To get the feeling you're back at elementary school nevertheless, Japie organises a Children's Playground on the 8th of September (attention: new date!) during the lunch break! Enjoy yourself, whilst being treated to a nice glass of lemonade, with games such as hide-and-seek like in the old days! You don't need to subscribe, just join us at the parking terrain in front of the Helix and participate!

On Friday the 10th of September, a group of Japie students will visit the production plant of Fokker Aerostructures in Papendrecht. Unfortunately, this excursion is in Dutch and therefore subscription by foreign master students for this excursion will not be possible.

The time has already come for the first Chemistry Cafe of the year! This time the atmosphere will be defined by the theme 'Pirates'. So take that pirate costume out of the moth balls, the eye patch from your beauty box and your parrot from the attic, 'cause you're going to need to prove you're seaworthy as a landlubber!

So where and when can you find your wooden legged-comrades?

- How much, old bucko? 1 euro. For that, you'll get an additional 4 F.O.R.T.-stripes!

Japie organises a lunch lecture by DSM on the 13th of September, together with Industria and Simon Stevin. Unfortunately, this event will be held in Dutch, so subscription by English-speaking students unfortunately will not be possible.

It is September again, so it is time for the annual Japie Cycle Tour! As usual, we will ride from the statue of Jan Pieter Minckelers in Maastricht to the finish line which is drawn just outside the F.O.R.T. The cycle tour will be held on Thursday the 16th of September, so the quick cyclists can still make it to the start of the Thursday Drink! The Thursday Drink will not be a normal Thursday Drink though, as there will be a barbecue to feed the hungry cyclists. Subscription for the cycle tour is for free (arrange your own bike!), participating in the barbecue will cost €4,- and is also possible for Japie members who don't participate in the cycle tour.

The login functionality of the Japie-site has been enabled for members. With your login details, you can visit the restricted part of the site (for example to view G.M.M. files), use the shoutbox and order books.
